In a letter sent to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), 76 public interest and civil rights group ask the agency to protect the open Internet and the rights of consumers in the digital age. The FCC is asked to do so by: adopting rules allowing pay TV customers to access programming on the devices and apps of their choice without having to rent a set-top box from their cable provider; adopting the previously proposed rules that would request broadband providers to protect the privacy of their customers; and prohibiting commercial practices that involve abusive data caps and zero rating plans that breach the net neutrality principles.
