Five months after theagreement on a new framework for transatlantic exchanges of personal data for commercial purposes between European Commission and the U.S. Government, European officials adopted the new Privacy Shield framework. The framework enables e-commerce companies, including some of the world's largest ones such as Google and General Electric, to move digital information freely while protecting themselves from liability for collection and the use of personal and personally identifiable information between the European Union and the United States. The principles the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield is based on are stated in The press release by the European Commission.
