UPDATE A public/private coalition of 51 attorneys general and 12 wireless carriers agreed on August 22nd to adopt eight principles to fight illegal robocalls. This deal will require carriers to take deliberate steps toward blocking the calls and working with law enforcement to bring bad actors to justice.
In a news conference, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein said, "By adopting these technological solutions and improving their cooperation with law enforcement, these phone companies are going to better serve their customers." The carriers have agreed to offer customers "easy to use call blocking and labelling tools" at no additional cost.
