The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced a settlement agreement with Amazon for violations of the US sanctions regulations.
According to the settlement announcement, Amazon has deficiencies in the sanctions screening process, and has violated the sanction regulations by providing goods and services to persons sanctioned by OFAC, by conducting retail e-commerce transactions with persons in sanctioned territories (such as Crimea, Iran, and Syria), and sanctioned country embassies (such as Cuba, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria) around the world.
Amazon settled on a settlement payment of USD 134 523 due to the fact that it voluntarily self-disclosed the apparent violations to OFAC, co-operated with OFAC's investigation, and remedied its conduct without administrative notice.
