Google's advanced generative AI model, Gemini, is set to debut on Samsung's latest smartphone, the Galaxy S24, as announced by Google and Samsung during the Galaxy S24 unveiling. The integration will feature Gemini Pro, a mid-range model, enhancing components of Samsung's Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard apps, providing users with improved summarisation features. For instance, users can record lectures using Voice Recorder and receive a summary of the key lesson highlights.
Gemini Nano, a more efficient and compact model, will introduce a new feature in Google Messages, called Magic Compose, on the Galaxy S24. This feature allows on-device message crafting in various styles like 'excited,' 'formal,' and 'lyrical' without an internet connection. Notably, the Galaxy S24 becomes the second Android device to run a Gemini Nano model, following Google's Pixel 8 Pro.
The Galaxy S24 will also leverage Google's Imagen 2 text-to-image model, enhancing photo editing features in the Galaxy S24 Gallery app. One notable feature, Generative Edit, automatically fills in parts of images based on contextual surroundings.
In addition to Gemini, Samsung will be among the first partners to test Gemini Ultra, the largest and most capable Gemini model, before broader availability to developers and enterprises later this year. The specific applications of Gemini Ultra on the Galaxy S24 are yet to be detailed.
