OpenAI has partnered with Arizona State University (ASU), granting the university full access to ChatGPT Enterprise. ASU plans to leverage the AI tool for personalised tutoring, coursework, and creative applications.
More specifically, it will use ChatGPT to craft personalised AI tutors covering a range of study topics, with a focus on crucial STEM subjects. The tool will be applied in Freshman Composition and extended to create AI avatars, acting as creative study companions for subjects like biology through singing or poetry composition.
The partnership, developed over the past six months, emphasises privacy safeguards, ensuring student data remains secure. The initiative aims to revolutionize AI education and explore new possibilities for higher education institutions.
Why does it matter?
AI chatbots like ChatGPT faced criticism for fostering cheating concerns, leading to outright bans in school districts like Seattle, Los Angeles, and New York City. Despite challenges, this initiative signals a shift in perspective, emphasizing the Enterprise version's potential for research, data analysis, and discovery-based activities.
