Apple and the FBI will testify today before the Judiciary Committee in the US Congress, in relation to thecase involving the FBI's request to Apple to assist in unlocking a phone belonging to one of the San Bernardino terrorists. Apple's general counsel Bruce Sewell will underline, in his statement (available here) that the FBI is asking the company to create an operating system that does not exists, and that can break the encryption system which protects personal information on iPhones. This would weaken the security of all iPhones, which would become vulnerable to cybercriminals. Apple's compliance with the request would also set a dangerous precedent for other government requests that would infringe on user's privacy and safety, says the counsel.
