Amazon has created the Counterfeit Crimes Unit to tackle sellers listing counterfeit products. The team operates internationally and is composed of former federal prosecutors, investigators, data analysts. The first objective of the Unit is to avoid counterfeited goods from being listed in the website. They will investigate cases where sellers have violated Amazon's policies. They will analyze Amazon's data, collect information from external resources, including payment service providers and open source intelligence. The Unit will allow Amazon to pursue tort litigation against bad actors more efficiently, collaborate with brands in investigations, and help law enforcement officials against the practice.
