The 2019 Human Development Report entitled 'Beyond income, beyond averages, beyond today: Inequalities in human development in the 21st century' tackled the role of digital technologies in the attainment of sustainable development goals (SDGs). The report acknowledges that 'policies are needed- at the national and global levels-to provide the right incentives to developers and adopters of technology' in order to harness technology for a great convergence in human development. The report also calls on 'balancing risks and opportunity' in order to manage the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation on the future of work. Among other things, concepts of access to broadband, financial inclusion as well as data transparency are also explored in the context of digital inequality.
