Zambia state owned Zamtel has begun enroll subscriber's facial images as part of SIM card registration. This is part of enhanced know-your-customer (KYC) directives that aim to curb fraud and increase security. Zamtel is implementing regulations issued by Zambia ICT Authority requiring all SIM cards to be verified by March 2020. The telecom stated that it would switch off SIM cards where owners did not enroll their facial biometrics.
