Whatsapp messaging service has been blocked in Chad according to a report and network data shared by Netblocks Internet observatory. Real-time metrics confirmed the outage on cellular networks Airtel and Tigo Tchad with the restrictions specifically targeting WhatsApp backend and frontend servers of subscribers. No explanation has been provided by authorities to justify the outages and no technical faults have been confirmed as well. According to the report however, the restrictions came just when the International Monetary Fund announced further support to the tune of US$68.49 million to enable the Chadian government to offset losses incurred from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
