According to Mashable, both Republican and Democratic senators have expressed concerns over recent revelations over Google, Facebook, and Apple's role in a market research program, which paid young users US$20 a month in exchange of complete access to their data. TechCrunch had revealed in the end of January that Facebook had been paying users to install a VPN on their mobiles, which allowed the company to access all user phone and web activity. Facebook later announced it would shut down the Android version of this research app.
