The US District Court for the Western District of Washington determined that Amazon.com Inc must produce reports in a potential class action regarding the marketing of Alexa-enabled devices and their recording of user conversations.
The plaintiffs alleged that the sale by Amazon of Alexa-enabled devices to consumers uses unfair and false advertising, as well as enables illegal recording of conversations, in violation of the law. Amazon estimated it would have to produce 4.4 million documents to attend the court order.
The federal judge concluded that Amazon failed to provide data about the time and cost of producing the documents, and the plaintiffs negotiated with Amazon over the discovery requests in good-faith.
