According to a news report, the government of Myanmar has issued a decree which has led to the shutdown of mobile Internet in parts of conflict-torn Western Myanmar. The Internet blackout which began on 21 June has seen mobile network providers cutting off data services in nine townships under government orders.
According to the report, UN Special Rapporteur Yanghee Lee has warned that the army could be using the blackout as a cover for 'gross human rights violations' especially on the civilian population. Lee called for the immediate lift of the restrictions by the government.
