The UK government has announced that the Alan Turin Institute, supported by the British Standards Institution and the National Physical Laboratory, will establish an AI Standards Hub aimed at increasing UK contribution to the development of global artificial intelligence (AI) technical standards. To start as a pilot project, the hub will initially focus on (a) growing the engagement of UK stakeholders in the development of global AI standards; (b) encouraging a coordinated engagement of the AI community of the development of standards around the world; (c) creating tools and guidance to help stakeholders engage in the development of AI standards; and (d) exploring opportunities for international cooperation with similar initiatives to ensure that AI standards are shaped by a wide range of AI experts, in line with shared values.
