According to an article, the UK government has laid before Parliament a new EU-derived regulation which seeks to give new powers to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for enforcing consumer protection in the online sphere. The new regulation, which was laid before Parliament on 5 May 2020, will enshrine in the UK domestic law parts of the EU Consumer Protection Cooperation Regulation (CPC Regulation) (EU) 2017/2394, which came into force in all EU member states on 20 January 2020, just days before Brexit. The regulation, which will become law on 2 June 2020, will ensure that the UK complies with the CPC Regulation and enforce consumer protection in e-commerce and other online services until the end of the Brexit transition period, after which it can be revoked.
