The Ministry of Health of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is reportedly planning to set up the first virtual hospital in the Middle East. In virtual hospitals, doctors and nurses can provide care to patients who are based at home by using smart monitors and other devices remotely. Virtual hospitals may mitigate the burdens on the hospital resources, particularly valuable ER resources, by enabling doctors and nurses to deliver healthcare without seeing patients in person. In January 2020, the UAE Ministry of Health and the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to offer smart and innovative healthcare services.
