The Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group kicks off

More than 49 countries and regions have joined the Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group, Japan's Prime Minster Kishida Fumio revealed. The group serves as a voluntary framework for countries supporting the Hiroshima AI Process (HAIP).

Kihisda made the remarks at a side event, 'Towards Safe, Secure and Trustworthy AI: Promoting Inclusive AI Governance,' at the sidelines of the Meeting of the Council at Ministerial Level (MCM) of the OECD.

The members of the Friends Group and Japan will work to implement the International Guiding Principles and the Code of Conduct, promoting cooperation to ensure that people worldwide can benefit from the use of safe, secure, and trustworthy AI, Kishida stated.

The full list of countries and regions that joined the Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group can be seen here. The list of organisations that commit to the implementation of the Hiroshima Process International Code of Conduct will be added after 2024.

Japan launched the Hiroshima AI process during its chairmanship of G7 in 2023, to address problems surrounding the rapid growth of AI technology.
