On 21 November, the first meeting of the Group of Friends on Digital Technologies was held in New York. On the occasion, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighted that 'new technologies, and particularly digital technologies, are already having a major impact on the world, affecting all our work on international peace and security, sustainable development and human rights'. In order to harness the potential of digital technology to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Group of Friends is expected to address the existing digital disparities between the developed countries and the Global South.
