TITLE: AI Act and what it means for Critical Infrastructure Protection
CONTENT: With the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in critical infrastructure facilities and security, questions emerge on how AI models employed to manage critical infrastructure should be covered by tight requirements of the rulebook for Artificial Intelligence by the EU.
The AI Act proposal designated AI systems used in managing and operating road traffic and supplying water, gas, heating, and electricity as high-risk. Cognisant of the need to differentiate between the management system and the safety component, the MEPs are working on a proposal to separate the management of road, rail, and air traffic from the management of supply networks like water, gas, heating, energy, and electricity. The concern is whether a malfunction in these algorithms could result in a system-wide failure.
