On 19 November 2019, delegates from 8 African countries met in Dares Salaam (Tanzania) in a workshop organised by Vodacom Tanzania, to discuss trends and developments shaping mobile money industry in Africa. According to mobile financial services report by the Dares Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), mobile money is pushing economic growth and empowering lives through financial inclusion.
Judith Oblizer, the managing executive, responsible for legal and regulatory affairs, Vodacom Group, said that Sub-Saharan Africa has experienced fast growth in mobile money transactions and innovations. Oblizer added that the aim of the workshop was to provide experts the opportunities to express their views on trends and developments in the industry.
Representative of the Bank of Tanzania Albert Ceseri highlighted the contribution of mobile financial services to the economy and the importance of the workshop in ensuring its sustainability.
