The South Korean government has revealed a 10-year plan to develop core semiconductor technologies, to maintain the country's leading position in the global semiconductor industry. The roadmap includes core technologies such as next-generation memory semiconductors, chip design technologies for AI, 6G, automobiles, and the development of packaging technologies. Additionally, a public-private council for the development of memory, foundry, and system semiconductor technologies was announced.

The Korean Ministry of Science and ICT collaborated with industry, academia, and researchers to allocate KRW 563.5 billion ($425.8 million) towards research and development (R&D) in the chip sector. The ministry also set its sights on attracting KRW 340 trillion in private-sector investments over the next five years.

Semiconductor firms such as Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, Sapeon, RFHIC and Wonik IPS also announced their latest technology trends during the announcement event. This follows the government's previously announced R&D strategies for three key technologies, including semiconductors, displays and next-generation batteries, and its agreement with the US and Japan to strengthen cooperation on advanced technologies, including semiconductors.
