Samsung introduces generative AI model dubbed Samsung Gauss

09 de novembro de 2023 Hi-network.com

Samsung has introduced its generative AI model, known as Samsung Gauss, tailored for implementing AI in its devices. This move positions Samsung as a potential pioneer among smartphone manufacturers in adopting generative AI, outpacing Apple. Generative AI, fueled by substantial language models like OpenAI's ChatGPT, has emerged as a prominent trend in the technology sector.

Samsung's Gauss offers various functionalities, such as Samsung Gauss Language, a generative language model facilitating email composition, translation, and user experience enhancement. Another capability empowers in-house developers to code more efficiently, and Samsung Gauss Image can create or modify images. Initially deployed for enhancing employee productivity, Samsung plans to extend its use to a wide range of products in the near future.

Meanwhile, Apple, Samsung's primary competitor in the smartphone market, has yet to announce its own generative AI product, although CEO Tim Cook has alluded to ongoing developments in this field. Samsung's Daniel Araujo anticipates that generative AI technology will become available to customers in the next year.

Why does this matter?

Competition within the AI sphere is essential in fostering innovation, expanding technological frontiers, and preventing any single company from monopolising the industry. Additionally, it promotes diverse perspectives and approaches that could lead to the discovery of novel solutions to complex challenges. Furthermore, this new AI model could potentially position Samsung ahead of its competitors, enabling it to introduce generative AI to its devices before others in the market.
