Malaysia's Minister of Communications and Digital Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, emphasized the significance of revising the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 to prevent fraudulent use of personal data.
Fadzil added during a press conference of the Cyber Security, Digital Economy, and Connectivity Awareness Campaign in Pantai Permai Housing that the legislative modifications are anticipated for December 2023 and, at the latest, March next year. Once the draft bill is completed, it would be sent to the Attorney-General's Chambers for review before being introduced in Parliament.
According to Fadzil, Malaysia might partner with other Southeast Asian nations to create a data-sharing protocol incorporating data sovereignty and portability, allowing it to become a regional data processing hub.
Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also stated that the draft bill would be accelerated to cover all cybersecurity and data protection legal elements.
