The New York State Legislature has introduced a biometric privacy bill that seeks to regulate use of biometrics by private entities. It covers issues such as the retention period of biometrics in possession of private businesses as well as guidelines for the permanent destruction of biometrics. The bill proposes that biometrics be destroyed once a person has concluded transacting with a private entity or after three years of a transaction.
