The New York Police Department (NYPD) and the Manhattan District Attorneylaunched a social media campaign aimed to 'highlight the impact encryption is having on public safety and victims of crime'. At the launch of the campaign, called#unlockjustice, Manhattan District Attorney said that 'the debate over encryption is often referred to in terms of privacy and security, with little regard for the impact on crime victims'; he also called for the US Congress not to permit companies 'to manufacture devices that are impenetrable to judicial search warrants'. The campaign doesn't seem to have been well received online, according to Motherboard.
