Nepal's House of Representatives through the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee has urged the government to use fingerprint and iris recognition to identify unclaimed bodies. This followed a spike in unidentified and unclaimed bodies across the country, which had risen to about 1,089 by April 16, 2021. The Committee has also urged the government to develop guidelines on management of unidentified or unclaimed bodies.
In addition, the Committee directed the fast tracking of national identity cards, which capture biometric data. This would help in identification of bodies in future as well as keeping records of unclaimed bodies.
