Microsoft President Brad Smith has stated that the company does not sell facial recognition software to the police. In an online event, hosted by Washington Post Live, Smith explained that Microsoft will not sell facial recognition software to the police until a national human rights based framework is in place. The company joined IBM and Amazon which earlier announced that they had stopped selling facial recognition software to the police. Concerns over racial profiling through facial recognition has been on the rise in the US where there have been nationwide protests following the killing of George Floyd, a black man, , by a police officer.
