Islamic State supporters hijacked dormant Twitter accounts to spread terrorist propaganda, TechCrunch reported. The hackers tweeted and retweeted materials such as Islamic State fighters wielding weapons or texts praising violence. According to TechCrunch, the hackers exploited the lack of e-mail confirmation when creating a Twitter account prior to June 2018. If the e-mail address used to create an (now dormant) account has expired or has been deleted, the account can be easily hijacked by creating the exact same address again. Twitter has since removed most of the accounts TechCrunch reviewed.
