The government of Myanmar has lifted a ban on Internet access in the northern Rakhine township of Maungdaw after over a year of Internet shutdown. According to a report, eight other townships remain blocked from Internet services by authorities throughout Rakhine and Chin states which are experiencing armed conflicts and an increase of COVID-19 cases.
The ban in Maungdaw was lifted after several rights groups called on the government to urgently restore Internet services across the country to ensure access to critical public health information and services to help contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
