Indonesia takes an ecosystem approach to digital transformation, digital ID system

Jan, 10, 2024 Hi-network.com

The government of Indonesia is preparing to roll out more entities of its digital service system. Digital ID, an instant digital payments service and a data exchange platform will be launched in the second half of 2024 as the country looks forward to building a complete digital public infrastructure (DPI).

Its designated technology agency, Security Printing and Minting Corporation of Indonesia (Peruri) is expected to spearhead the launch of a cocktail of digital applications during the year. The apps, which will form part of the digital public infrastructure (DPI) ecosystem, will ensure Indonesians not only receive digital IDs but will also be able to access many government and private sector services in finance, education, healthcare, social welfare, and police services. Peruri has already launched a sandbox where entities can test solutions supporting the country's digital transformation process.

Why does it matter?

This dedicated and measured approach to digital transformation is vital to maintaining and accelerating the economic growth figures the country has grown accustomed to since 2017. The Indonesian economy grew over 400% between 2017 and 2021. Research data from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) also conform to an inextricable link between the country's economic growth and digital transformation efforts.
