The team created within the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) community to work on the Expedited Policy Development Process (EPDP) Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data has published its initial report on issues related to access to non-public domain name registration data (e.g. personal data of a registrant of a domain name, provided at the time of the domain name registration). The report outlines a series of preliminary recommendations on the so-called System for Standardised Access/Disclosure (SSAD) to non-public data related to the registration of domain names in generic top-level domains (gTLDs). Issues covered by the recommendations include, among others: (a) accreditation procedures for access to SSAD; (b) accreditation of public entities that require access to RDDS data; (c) dealing with data disclosure requests from third parties (for purposes such as criminal law enforcement and consumer protection); (d) retention and destruction of domain name registration data. The initial report is under public consultation until 23 March 2020.
