The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA)allocated the equivalent of a /18 of IPV4 address space to the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). This address space comes from a recovered pool of leftover and returned IPv4 address blocks that IANA started collecting following the exhaustion of its free pool of IPv4 addresses in 2011. The returned addresses will be distributed by RIRs according to the current IPv4 policy.
