Prerequisites
Before backing up configuration files to an FTP server or client, the following tasks need to be completed:
· If the device acts as an FTP client and backs up configuration files to an FTP server, you need to ensure that an FTP connection between the device and the FTP server has been established, for details, see "Configuring the Device as an FTP Client" in CLI Configuration Guide - Basic Configuration.
- If the device acts as an FTP server and backs up configuration files to an FTP client, you need to ensure that an FTP connection between the device and the FTP client has been established, for details, see "Configuring the Device as an FTP Server" in CLI Configuration Guide - Basic Configuration.
- The command install feature-software WEAKEA has been executed to install the weak security algorithm/protocol feature pack (WEAKEA).

To prevent accidental damage to the device, which makes the configuration file unrecoverable, you can back up the configuration file by FTP.
There are two ways to backup configuration files by FTP:
- The device acts as an FTP client and backs up the configuration file to the FTP server.
- The device acts as an FTP server and backs up the configuration files to the FTP client.
Users can choose one way to backup according to the actual situation.

FTP backup configuration file is relatively simple, but there is a security risk. In scenarios with high security requirements, it is recommended to use SFTP and SCP to backup configuration files.
FIPS mode does not support the use of FTP backup configuration files.
Steps
- The device acts as an FTP client and backs up the configuration file to the FTP server.
1. Establish a connection with the FTP server through FTP.
ftp [ ipv6 ] host-ip
2. Transfer the configuration file.
On the device, use the put command to upload the configuration file to the specified directory on the PC and save it.
put local-filename [ remote-filename ]
- The device acts as an FTP server and backs up the configuration file to the FTP client.
1. initiate an FTP connection from the maintenance terminal to the device.
On the PC, establish an FTP connection with the device through the FTP client (for example, the IP address of the device is 10.110.24.254, and the username of the FTP user created on the device is Huawei and the password is YsHsjx_202206).
C:\Documents and Setting\Administrator> ftp 10.110.24.254

2. Transfer the configuration file.
On the PC, use the get command to back up the configuration file to the specified directory on the PC and save it.
ftp> get remote-filename[local-filename]
Checking the Configuration Result
Under the working path of the terminal FTP user, you can see that the configuration file has been saved to this path and the size of the configuration file on the device and on the FTP server or client is the same.
