Need to research a topic via the internet but don't want to spend hours online? Google Gemini's Deep Research can tackle that task for you. Accessible on the web, Android, and iOS, Deep Research acts as a virtual agent that performs online research on your behalf.
Simply submit a request about your topic, and the AI generates a research plan. Once you approve the plan, Deep Research searches the web for relevant information and generates a detailed report for your review.

With Deep Research, Gemini is also capable of multitasking. That means you can start a new request while one is already running. Google limits how many requests you can run simultaneously, as well as the number you can submit per day. But you'll be alerted if you're about to hit your quota.
Gemini and Deep Research operate the same on the website and in the mobile apps. Let's check out your options to see how this works.
What you'll need: To use Deep Research, you'll need the$20-per-month Gemini Advanced subscription, which is part of the Google One AI Premium plan. If you aren't already a subscriber, head to the Gemini web page, click the button for Gemini Advanced, and then start your subscription. You'll also enjoy a free one-month trial before Google starts charging you.
Head to the Gemini website with your favorite browser. Click the Gemini Advanced header to see all the different models available. For Deep Research, select the model for 1.5 Pro with Deep Research.

At the prompt, type a description of the topic you want to research.
In response, the AI creates a plan with a specific series of steps that it will follow. To make any changes, click the Edit plan button. Describe the changes you want Gemini to make and then submit your prompt.
If you're good with the original or revised plan, click the button for Start research.
Depending on the complexity of the topic and the number of websites consulted, you'll likely have to wait at least several minutes for the AI to conduct its research. During that time, you can open other pages in your browser or launch other apps on your PC. You'll be alerted when the report is ready.
While you wait for the first report to be generated, you can submit another request. To do that, start a new chat. At the prompt, describe your new request, approve the plan, and then wait for the report. At the left pane, scroll up and down to see the status of each request.
To circle back to the first request, move your cursor to the far left sidebar until you see all the recent conversations. Click the one for the first request.
After the research for that request is completed, scroll down to read the entire report. The report is divided into separate sections, often with bullet points to summarize key elements.

Scroll to the bottom of the report to find links to the websites that Gemini used as its online sources. Click the Open in Docs button if you want to view the report in a separate browser tab through Google Docs.
To view the second request, again move your cursor to the far left sidebar and select that request under recent chats. Once that report is complete, scroll down to read it or open it in Google Docs to launch it in a separate tab. Both reports then appear in different tabs where you can switch between them.
Back at the Gemini website, hover over the plan for any request. From the toolbar, you're able to give the research a thumbs up or thumbs down, export it to Google Docs or Gmail, or copy it. You can also copy the report itself to the clipboard to paste it elsewhere.
Want to share the report with other people? Tap the Share response icon and copy the link. You can then paste the link into an email, message, or other communication. Otherwise, choose a specific service to share the link-LinkedIn, Facebook, X, or Reddit.
What you'll need: To use Deep Research on your mobile device, download the Gemini iOS app from the App Store or the Android app from Google Play. You still need the$20-per-month Gemini Advanced subscription.
Open the app and start a new chat. Tap the Gemini Advanced heading at the top and change the model to 1.5 Pro with Deep Research. Speak or type your request at the prompt and submit it.
Tap Edit Plan if you wish to modify the plan. When ready, tap Start Research to approve the original or modified plan.
To submit a new request while the first one is still running, tap the left arrow to return to the main screen. Enter and submit your request at the prompt. Approve the plan and start the research. To switch back and forth between each request, return to the main screen. Tap the History icon at the top and select the request you wish to view.
When either report is ready, tap the Open button to view it. Swipe to the bottom of the report to view all the website sources. Select a specific source to launch its site.
With the report open, tap the Share icon to share it with someone else. Tap the three-dot icon to open it in Google Docs or select any or all of the text.
Finally, you can create a public link to your request and the report.
