Greenlight, a pay as you go (PAYG) solar service provider, has partnered with telecom operators in Africa, with the aim of reaching 600 million unelectrified consumers in Africa. The product has been made more affordable and accessible for rural individuals through collaboration with more than 15 telecom operators, banks, and payment gateways. Three leading operators; Vodacom (Tanzania), Orange (Burkina Faso), and Telma (Madagascar) are doing full sales and distribution through their subscription base and mobile money channels.
Senior Vice President at Greenlight Planet, Dhavel Radia said that by expanding to rural areas with PAYG solar products, telecom operators can give their customers high value services. 40 million payments have been recorded from African customers in the last 2 years
