In the midst of the heated debate between free speech and censorship to fight terrorists' use of the Internet, Google's chairman Eric Schmidt has written an op-ed in The New York Times pleading for mechanisms to counter online extremism. 'We should build tools to help de-escalate tensions on social media -sort of like spell checkers, but for hate and harassment' and 'target social accounts for terrorist groups like the Islamic State, and remove videos before they spread', he writes.
