Google has begun publishing COVID-19 community mobility reports that show trends in movement of people. The reports are based on data gathered from Google location services as well as data generated by users of the android phone operating system that is owned by Google. They provide insights on how people move over time in different regions and show peak times in places such as parks, stations, offices and homes. A press release by Google explains that the data is anonymised. It will be freely available for use by public health officials until the end of the Coronavirus pandemic.
