FBI and DoJ use court order to thwart Chinese hacking of critical infrastructure

Jan, 30, 2024 Hi-network.com

The FBI and Department of Justice (DoJ) have reportedly obtained a court order to address vulnerabilities in numerous internet-connected devices linked to a Chinese hacking campaign targeting critical US infrastructure.

The court order enables the Justice Department to update software on thousands of vulnerable devices, aiming to disrupt communication between the hackers and compromised infrastructure. The hackers are suspected of exploiting access to these devices to infiltrate sensitive infrastructure such as ports and transportation networks.

This move is part of a broader government initiative to counter the persistent threat Chinese hackers pose.

The Justice Department and FBI declined to comment. The Chinese embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
