The families of victims from the US of a recent Palestinian attack are suing Facebook for more than a billion dollars. They accuse the tech company of 'knowingly provid[ing] material support and resources to Hamas' and 'facilitat[ing] this terrorist group's ability to communicate, recruit members, plan and carry out attacks, and strike fear in its enemies.' The case is part of a series of lawsuits about social media platforms' responsibility in the management of their content. In June, a similar case appeared in relation to the Paris attacks, and in May, several social media platforms were sued for publishing racist, anti-semitic and homophobic content. According to an expert quoted by in The Telegraph, the plaintiffs are unlikely to win the case, but 'could still have an impact on the debate over terror groups' use of the internet.'
