European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova delivered a speech at the Atlantic Council in Washington where she urged the United States to play a more active role in combating Russian propaganda and online disinformation because of the threat they represent for democracy. Jourova stressed that information manipulation is a very underestimated weapon. She also mentioned the EUs approach to tackling disinformation such as requiring Big Tech companies to follow the new Digital Services Act and the Code of Practice on Disinformation. "We face similar problems, so it would make sense to find similar solutions," explained Jourova.
