Since last year, the European Commission (Commission) has been investigating alleged anticompetitive behavior related to the Alliance for Open Media (AOM), whose members include Google, Amazon, Apple, and Meta. Namely, the Commission was investigating the license terms of AOM's new standard software for streaming called AV, which allegedly violated the European Union's (EU) competition rules. The Commission decided to close the investigation due to priority reasons and not on any evidence of compliance or non-compliance with EU competition rules. EU's spokesperson stated that the EU will continue to monitor competition-related issues that substantially impact the EU market.
