ESCAP report reveals ASEAN inland countries are not fully benefiting from Internet bandwidth

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) of the Republic of Korea have published a report entitled A Pre-Feasibility Study on the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway in the ASEAN Sub-region: Conceptualization, International Traffic & Quality Analysis, Network Topology Design and Implementation Model. The report addresses Internet traffic in the ASEAN region, as well as the digital divide in the region, related to terrestrial broadband connectivity, traffic exchange, internet costs and quality aspects. According to the report, inland countries are not fully benefiting from the Internet, which often corresponds to high Internet prices. The furthermore report stresses the importance of terrestrial connectivity and Internet Exchange Points.
