The Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Japanese Assistive Technology Development Organisation (ATDO) to develop a comprehensive strategy to improve digital inclusion of persons with disabilities (PwDs) and establish a joint centre for excellence in universal design and Assistive Technology at the National Academy of Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities (NAID). The co-operation further includes capacity building and research in a range of areas including artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, Internet of things (IoT), and other emerging technologies to serve Japanese and Arabic speaking PwDs. The collaboration will also include universal design and assistive technology standards, especially those supporting Arabic, aiming at facilitating access to animated images and inclusion of people with intellectual, cognitive, or psychosocial disabilities.
