Industry association DIGITALEUROPE called for creating the European digital infrastructure consortium (EDIC), a network of cybersecurity training campuses across Europe to address a lack of cybersecurity talent, as proposed in the EU Cyber Security Skills Academy Communication.
The call notes that 'cyber skills development is a labor market failure in the EU', requiring much more robust collaboration between the public and private sectors. The EDIC should focus on setting up and coordinating a network of cybersecurity training campuses, the call noted, and DIGITALEUROPE's partners stated they are prepared to offer support through resources and expertise.
The benefits of the proposed EDIC include enhanced EU security, reduced financial impact of future cyberattacks, and increased global influence in the EU digital discourse. The call is addressed to the EU member states to support the initiative by 30 May.
DIGITALEUROPE represents the digital technology industry and whose members include more than 102 technology corporations and 41 national trade associations.
