Two recent measures of the UK government triggered criticism by the development community:
a) slashing of the aid budget from 0.7% to 0.5% of gross national income
b) establishment of British International Investment (BII) which will shift development assistance towards private-public partnerships.
Daniel Willis from Global Justice Now, said: "There is a clear role for UK aid to play in supporting the 'global south' during the pandemic and against climate change, but instead the government is chasing colonial post-Brexit fantasies.
