China has expressed its commitment to enhancing collaboration with African countries in the governance of AI. This pledge was made during the China-Africa Internet Development and Cooperation Forum, where the Cyberspace Administration of China called for closer coordination and cooperation within international frameworks such as the UN. The forum stressed the importance of ensuring that developing countries are adequately represented in the global development and governance of AI technology.

The UN General Assembly recently adopted its first resolution on AI, co-sponsored by China and proposed by the USA. The resolution aims to steer the use of AI toward benefiting global society and calls for the promotion of 'safe, secure, and trustworthy' AI systems that contribute to sustainable development.

China's Global AI Governance Initiative, launched in October, aims to ensure that AI remains under human control and operates in a fair manner during data collection, algorithm design, development, and application. The Xiamen forum statement acknowledges Africa's role as an important participant in scientific and technological progress. It proposes increased cooperation with the continent to seize opportunities, address challenges, and strengthen collaboration in the field of AI.

To promote further collaboration, the Cyberspace Administration of China announced the establishment of the China-Africa Exchange and Cooperation Center on Cybersecurity and Digital Economy in Xiamen. This centre aims to enhance cyberspace collaboration between China and African countries. Furthermore, a China-Africa cybersecurity training course is scheduled to take place this year, aiming to enhance both sides' capabilities in cybersecurity.
