The Canadian Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces (DND/CAF) has announced the Quantum Science and Technology Strategy Implementation Plan, known as Quantum 2030, a roadmap aimed at ensuring better preparedness for the disruptive potential of quantum technologies in defence and security over the next seven years. The implementation plan includes five calls to action for DND/CAF, including identifying expected users of quantum technologies, training personnel for a base level of understanding of quantum, harmonising investments, accessing state-of-the-art technology, and engaging industry and academia.
Quantum 2030 identifies four promising quantum technologies with defence and security applications: quantum-enhanced radar, quantum-enhanced light detection and ranging (LiDAR), quantum algorithms for protection and security, and quantum networking. The seven-year plan is divided into three phases: recruiting and training personnel, scientific development, and field testing and demonstrations.
