On 28 February 2020, Vatican's Pontifical Academy for Life, Microsoft, IBM, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and the Italian government signed the Rome Call for AI Ethics, designed to 'support an ethical approach to artificial intelligence (AI) and promote a sense of responsibility among organisations, governments and institutions'. The signatories expressed their commitment to working together to promote 'algor-ethics', defined as the ethical use of AI in line with the principles of transparency, inclusion, responsibility, impartiality, reliability, and security and privacy.
