The Business Software Alliance has published policy principles for building trust in Internet of things (IoT) devices. According to the guide, there are 12 principles governments should take into account when developing IoT security policies such as: (a) to take into consideration IoT ecosystem's diversity and complexity, (b) to distinguish between consumer IoT and industrial IoT (IIoT), (c) to define and create policies and strategies that address the entire life cycle of IoT devices and systems, (d) to engage all relevant stakeholders in the process of designing and managing IoT systems, (e) to support the development and use of international IoT standards, (f) to include IoT in any cybersecurity or privacy-related incident responses.
